This Spotlight appeared in our July 2024 newsletter.

Please introduce yourself and tell us where you’re from. 

We are the Roches; Stephanie, Kevin, and 20-month-old, Cecilia. Cecilia was diagnosed with Type 3 in February of this year.  We live in Mendon, MA just an hour outside of Boston. Kevin is a project foreman for Wayne J. Griffin Electric. and Stephanie works for the TJX Companies in IT. Cecilia is working on her colors, ABCs, and songs.

What is something you love about where you live?

We love where we live! We are close to Boston, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod. We have a drive-in theater and the largest zoo in New England in our town. We are also very close to our friends and families, aka our support system.

Can you tell us about how you got connected to VWD Connect?

We found the foundation the night Cecilia was diagnosed. Confused and overwhelmed with the diagnosis we went looking to Facebook groups to see if we could find other families going through what we were and so many people recommended VWD Connect!

How did you get the idea to organize the golf tournament? How did it come about?

We knew we wanted to help VWD Connect and do some sort of fundraiser. Kevin is an avid golfer and Stephanie also enjoys golf but more so event planning and a good project. We had both attended golf tournament fundraisers in the past and knew this was something we would be successful at, and a way for friends and family to get involved.   

We know this will be your first conference. What are you most looking forward to? What do you hope to gain from the experience?

We are so excited to attend our first conference! We look forward to meeting other members and making connections. We also look forward to meeting with medical professionals and learning more about potential treatment options in the works.
