Jan has Type 3 VWD diagnosed at early childhood. Born in Poland, he came to the U.S. in 1986. He is a mathematician working at Fordham University in New York. He lives with his wife, Zuzanna, in Yonkers, New York. They have two children, Alexander and Sophia (a manager software engineer and a medical doctor). He has one brother who lives in Poland and also has Type 3 VWD. Jan had many bleeding episodes throughout his life, including life-threatening ones but thanks to medical treatment, prophylaxis and most importantly the support of his wife, he has been able to maintain normal life. Jan and Zuzanna attend NHF and WFH conferences, and events organized by New York City Hemophilia Chapter. They participated in all (except one) VWD Connect Foundation National Severe VWD conferences. Jan looks forward to representing patients and their families on the VWD Connect Foundation Board.
